What did we learn from the crisis?
They say that a crisis is a time of opportunity. It is easy to understand but not very accepting. How to see opportunities when we don’t know what will happen next – with work, money, and in general? Let’s try it together.
The first thing that the crisis gave us was the understanding that the wheels had stopped. People had time for themselves to think about what they were doing and whether it was worth it. And many suddenly realized that they did not want to return to their usual way of life.
The second is the collapse of stability. Or better called as the illusion of balance, in which many believed. It seemed to us that we were in control. But when everything “flew” and became uncontrollable, the realization came. We felt stability because nothing happened. On the one hand, it hurts to accept. On the other, it gives freedom.
Third, a new understanding of oneself appeared. While we were all busy and fled with all our strength, sometimes, there was a feeling that I lived for my job. But this is wrong. When people distanced themselves from the work process, they began to ask themselves questions: who they are, what they are, and what they do.
Fourth, creative mobilization. People from the most affected industries have made an enormous leap. Many have launched online stores, deliveries, online tastings, online training in record time, and created fascinating product formats. Creativity reached a new level by accomplishing these.

Big Insight Model
Success stories usually sound beautiful. For example, look at the story of Julia. She was a guide to Berlin, a university teacher, and a scientist in the past. “I didn’t open a magazine with vacancies in my rubric, I saw an offer – a guide for gastronomic excursions – and I like an electric current. What does this tell us? That the Big Insight model is not working. And hypotheses and prototypes work.
When there is a meeting with a dream, we feel: this is it! And we take this Big Insight as an answer. And this is not an answer at all – this is a hypothesis; hypothesis to be tested. It’s like in the story of a girl with an eco-farm who first went to volunteer. Even though she shouldn’t have quit, she could have volunteered on vacation.
A point on the map
There is one more thing that doesn’t work, which is a point target. For example, when we need to know in advance the answer to the question we have no idea about. Like what I will do in five years, how much I will earn, in what profession I will be, these are all targeted goals that have huge risks.
The first risk: your profession may simply disappear by the time you come to it. Jobs are vanishing, and new ones appear very quickly, especially in our turbulent time.
The second risk: when in a few years you arrive at the right point, you may realize that you didn’t want any of this. For example, you thought it was great to be a freelance writer, but you didn’t consider that it’s a rather excellent job.
And the third risk, which almost no one thinks about: you can outgrow the goal as you go towards it.
Need a vector
An alternative to these approaches is to understand your direction or vector. Imagine three people opening bars. One of them is Dmitry: he wants to do unusual cool projects shoulder to shoulder with bright, talented people. The second is Sergey: he loves bar culture. The third is Oleg: he opens a bar because it is a good business project to make money. Imagine that all three bars were covered with a copper basin. Did the trajectories of each of these guys interrupt?
He was not interrupted. Dmitry will continue to do projects with interesting people. Sergey will find a way to develop a bar culture. For example, he will temporarily transfer his bar online. And Oleg will come to his senses because he is an entrepreneur, and he will simply do other business projects. His task is to do business projects; here is his vector. No matter what happens then, our trajectory does not stop. The points inside this vector, they will each have their own.
The target is calibrated. She grows with us. And every time new tasks and guidelines arise, the vector remains with us.
Let’s do an exercise called Vertex Unpacking to understand our vector. Take any specific goal that is super-attractive to you, which gives you goosebumps. For example, to become a writer, financial director, or professional athlete. Now ask one question: “What is the goal for me?” All. Here is your vector.
And even if turbulence hits you, you will still understand what you need. Why do we need a bar? Why do you want to write texts? Why do you need to jump on the board in the snow?
How to never get stuck in the never-before mode for years

Do you know what the most significant risk at the point of choice is? No, not at all to go wrong or make a mistake. The most significant risk is getting stuck at this damn point of decision. At this time, self-esteem collapses, and energy is wasted. The professional value does not grow: a person does not teach anything – he wants to advance somewhere but does not improve anywhere. But FOMO syndrome develops to its fullest – a syndrome of the sensation of losing time when you directly feel how time flies through you. Inertia is growing – rolling into a rut when you are already imprinted in this world, routine, and these people. The law of backward effort is developing. When you flounder very much to get out, look frantically for yourself. When you want to understand where to go, you just get sucked back into the swamp.
All this happens at the point of choice. But why are we sitting in it? What keeps us in it?
The fact is that we think that we have a Big Turn ahead. We must now somehow turn off the current path and do everything in a new way. And this fear of turning around and making a big mistake is a huge mistake. It can’t keep good people in the grip for years. But if you don’t buy an eco-farm, and go there to volunteer, then nothing terrible will happen to you. At most, you will lose your vacation. You will not be afraid to turn because you will not be afraid to fail. Although, the method with a sharp repetition also works.
A sharp turn or one-degree turn
For example, here are two stories of two girls who decided to change their lives five years ago. Tanya went through a sharp turn, and Yana went through a series of small consecutive movements. It also led her to the point at which she wanted to get.
Tanya was the financial director, she was shaken sharply, and went to live in Italy on Lake Garda. When asked why Tanya did this, she replies, “Well, here I am. I decided and did. I just need it this way: I can’t slow down. The shed burned down. “Yana worked as an HR specialist in a bank and was fond of wine as a culture. She did not change anything dramatically. Therefore, it is essential to understand: the angle of rotation should be the way you want. Want it smoothly – let it be smooth. If you want it sharply, let it be sharp as you want. “You” is the keyword.

It so happens that we are not satisfied with the current job, but it is entirely unclear where to go. And about such situations, you can safely publish a book called “Why could it be so?” Because often, we do not see the opportunities that lie before us. Why?
Firstly, because we mix the sphere and the format, what does it mean? Here is an example of Elena Rezanova herself: “I, working in the company and responsible for career development, told myself a thing I will remember for a long time. No, career development is not interesting to me at all. People development is not interesting to me at all, and all this is not my topic at all. What was uninteresting to me? The format of work in which I then practised it; specifically, job responsibilities and scope of work. Everything that was contextual, situational, I didn’t like it, it has exhausted itself. But in general, the sphere of career development is mine. I’m still in it, just in a different format.”
A considerable number of amazingly smart people make the same systemic mistake. They confuse the format of their current work and the topic in which they are located. They stop looking around.
The second problem is tunneling. When we are busy, and in demand, we stop looking back and get new information. Therefore, when it naturally covers us, the question “What is next?” Arises, we have no answer options. The only way out is to get tunneled, make a map of opportunities and selection fields.

Three questions to ask
To make a map like this, try asking yourself three simple questions.
